The Health Resources Comparison Tools (HRCT) enable local
health planners, administrators and researchers to compare health status indicators
and available health resources for their state and county (or county equivalents) to
states or similar counties nationwide.
Similar counties can be defined by the user based on several characteristics: population
size, density, age distribution, mortality, percent minority, percent below poverty,
and education. The tool permits users to select among these variables to identify similar
counties and also lets the user define data ranges to include more or fewer counties.
The ability to directly compare similar counties may assist analysts and health
planners in identifying resources lacking in their community which are need to address
